Meals and Snacks
Hickory House provides all the food and drink required by children
throughout the day. Our meals consist of breakfast, lunch and tea with a mid morning
and afternoon snack of a piece of fruit or biscuit with milk to drink. Water is
available throughout the day to all the age groups.
Parents with babies under 6 months old are required to bring
in their own food for the day, this allows the weaning process to be well established,
with parents gradually introducing different tastes to their baby at their own
pace. At around 6 months old we then continue the weaning process with the nurseries
own meals.
Here at Hickory House all the meals are nutritional, well presented
and child friendly. The menus have been put together to be well balanced but enjoyable
for children. We operate a relaxed eating environment where children are encouraged
to try different foods but are never forced. Good manners are encouraged at all
times and the children are allowed to chat with their peers and adults and so
creating a comfortable, social time that in itself makes eating and mealtimes
a positive and happy time for children. Children are always offered pudding regardless
of the outcome of the first course.
All meals are freshly prepared everyday using good quality,
wholesome ingredients, we do not add any unnecessary sugar or salt and we cater
for all individual dietary requirements that children may have.
Personal hygiene is encouraged at all meal times with both children
and staff washing their hands before the meal is served.
Our full time cook has a wealth of experience planning nutritional
child friendly meals. With having a full time cook this enables the nursery nurses
to dedicate 100% of their time to the children in their care. All staff have or
are working towards their Food Hygiene Certificate.
We also have a part time House Keeper. She maintains the high
standard of cleanliness throughout the nursery and also undertakes the normal
cleaning duties of the nursery nurses so they again can devote all their time
to the children.
